See steve, you're inspiring people!!! Hmm, I wish I had a set of pads for every bloke i got to go racing, or to go BACK to racing, like you, steve-o! No steve, don't say nothing about how many people I've discouraged from racing by being sideways ro crashing: see, I can read your thoughts!kiwi60 wrote:Excellent results steve, I'm really chaffing at the bit to get my bike together now...
And then you inspired the chap down the road and he bought that RGV, and there's another friend of yours wanting to have a go, and all these guys getting keener and keener, and we've got darren who bought a zxr, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
maybe we should just start a Cooranbong formula 95 club?
Now I've just gotta get back out there and beat you again...

:cool
In all honesty I hope I do inspire people to go racing rather than going fast on the road. Its so much less risky on the track.
Bryce my mate with the RGV is now hooked, he cant believe how much fun you could have going fast on a 250cc bike.
Hes going to sell it now & get an FZR 1000 or GSXR 750
hes keeping his
Kawasaki 1200 road bike, but just for transport,
& some Sunday riding.
I have been around a while & raced against some big names, but you have to rememeber, they werent big names when I raced against them. They were just like me, tyring to do as much racing,so you got good enough to attract a sponsor that would help you pay for some more racing.
For me I just didnt crack the big time, the crash ended my career
& almost my life, I got close, but no cigar.
I am happy Im doing it again, its much more fun now,
but still as tough.
Money wins, it did then & does now.
Talent plays a hand in it as well, but without the money your talent alone will never get you there.
It goes hand in hand. With money you can have
a new set of tyres for every meeting, that give you confidence, that let you ride faster, which will get you noticed by people that have money. Its a never ending circle.
So there you are. Thats my take on racing.
Now lets get some more TEAM EXUP guys on the track.!!!
Oh heres a pic of me in 1989, when I had a little talent & a little money.

Great shots! Great looking bike too! Stands out like dogs nuts...lol.
Stan's bike is for sale, I'll make a post in the 'for sale section'. I'm happy to deliver it any anywhere in Australia for the cost of fuel and 1/2 the airfare home
Steve, who did you use to freight your raceglass from the states? Cheers Mate, and keep up the good work :cool

I got the centre hole in the upper triple clamp machined out, & got a 2mm offset bush made to fit the new bigger hole. That let me move the triple forward 1mm. the result was the bottom of the forks moved back 15mm That inturn, with pushing the forks up 28mm reduced the rake from 25.5 to 24deg. Remember I already got the standard slow/safe 26.5 rake down to 25.5 with the 155mm dog bones.. I can tell you it made a sportsbike out of a sports tourer, handling wise.hotcam wrote:Looks great, steve. Who did the rake angle increase for you on the frame?\

Ah yes thats' right, I have the 158 dogs and an adjustable ride height shock
so far, plus I did have 15mm forks slid up.
Totally makes a difference huh, I'd love to try your yoke mod too.
Incidentally 24degrees is the rake on a YZF750.
You can slide the forks up 28mm without the fender banging on the fairing?
I think I found that about 14mm was my limit. Am I missing something?

My fender contacts along the centreline, under the front of the fairing nose
right near the front of the fairing.
I think it must be related to being a foxeye '95 because the fender
looks the same and steve hasn't had any issues with it and I haven't
heard of others with it either. I guess the foxeye fairing is a bit deeper
at the nose to accomodate the headlights.
Steve did you have to machine the step in the forks further down to
hold the handlebars, or doesn't yours have the step?
Yes I had lifted the fairing as far as I could, that's how I managed to
get about 15mm lift out of my forks. I first learned that the hard way
on a GTR1000 ...those things have a huge fairing, and its still
only supported by 2 bolts up top and a few at the belly! I had the fairing
mounting bolts come loose on a trip - every time I hit a bump the whole
fairing assembly bounced up and down 1/2"
Loctite on them bolts
from that point on ...
