Carb tuning (again)

Post by Duncan Hines »

OK I have completely disassembled my carbs and cleaned them out on my YZF750 94. Made sure ust about every rubber thingy was tracked and removed before spraying it down. Re-assembled using new jets, factory pro config 3.0 needles and 130 jets that came with it, since I have a K&N pod. Dialed the jets in on the second from the end connector as FP specifies. Checked Floats to be @ 14mm, and em tubes correctley mounted with the jet body in the grove. Have tried 3 turns out as FP specifies, and she starts up beautifully. When warm if I give her some she hesitates then revs, but when I release the throtle she stays there for about 10 secs then revs come down. Tried 3.5 turns out and it did the same. What am I missing???<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... ssyfit.gif ALT=":hissy">

OK. re-checked floats, was @ 5 turns out and floats were @ 14mm. Looked at Starter 1 jet ant it was smaller then my other set, instead of 57.5 it read 12.5. So i changed it out following my trusty hanes manual which is the stock jet and now she won't start?? Any help???

Factory Pro has had some pretty good tech help on their web site in the past Duncan, Lots of stuff on fitting Keihin FCR's, and even though that isn't what your working with at the moment there is a lot of good general info that would apply.
I can't help on the jet sizes, except to say that going from 57.5 to 12.5 just sounds wrong to me.
If I remember right , the stock low speed (starter) fuel jet in the 1000 is a 60.0, I've tried smaller low speed fuel jets in my FCR's (when using a full exhaust), and ended up with the same symptom you've described - so I would definetly recomend going back through them.
Good luck, B.

Carb Frustration

Post by Duncan Hines »

Anyone know a good tuner in Atlanta region who can help?

Got the bike running and re-checked everything, from O-Rings on vacuum slides to O-Rings on diaphram side. Needles at 2nd from top and float levels @ 14mm. She still stays litup once you blip her for a good 10-15 seconds after you let go of the juice. Tried both out tunrs and even in on pilots so as not to lose my mind. Haven't sync'ed since I don't have a vacuum gauge, could this be it??

an idle that hangs up after blipping the throttle is lean in the low end. You need to richen the pilot air screws OR......have a look at the carb amifolds. the rubber ones....are they distorting when being tightened? Are they torn or cracked???
if all is well there, try turning out the pilot air screws. If you have to go further than 4 1/2 turns from lightly seatedthen you would be better served by going one size larger pilot jet

Where abouts in Atlanta are you? I'd recommend Marrietta Motorsports, but it has been so long since I have talked to anyone there. There used to be a shop/dealer over in Tucker on Heu 29, that did good work. Another down off Covington Hwy just outside of 285, but I think that one is closed.

Plus I haven't been back home in about 4 years now.
There are some who call me........Tim?

It may be something else completely.

Are you sure your throttle cables aren't hanging up? The throttle plates should snap closed after you release the throttle.

Also could be the slides are hanging open. Run the bike with the filters and tank off and watch slide plate? Is it closing quickly as you let off the throttle? If not, check your diaphrams and the springs and make sure the in good shape and installed correctly with all the seals in place.
