YZF750 runs like a Vtwin

I've been out of the country for the past 6 weeks and got back and imediately went to my bike, to clean her up and get her running again. Sadly it has taken me a couple of days to get her running. A couple of weeks ago before I left I changed the plugs and there was some black soot, dry no oil, which I knew she was running rich, however she has gotten worse. I think the main jets, emulsion tubes, may be the culprit, however she starts but doesn't run strong. I'm thinking I should overhaul the carbs, but I don't know how to check certain things like float levels and make sure the tube/jets are causing the problem. Without a means of doing a compresion test myself, I think i will do the carbs. I also have a K&N Pod for which I've seen the Factory Pro kit for this but since she runs rich I wanted to down size the jets, has any one had experience with this kit or should I stick to the Ti one? As well how do you check float levels? <p></p><i></i>
