strange rattling noise

hi folks im new to the site i just got a 1996 yzf 750r which i love to bits,only problem is an irritating rattling noise at low rpm that increases till about 2000 rpm seemingly comming from the exup valve, above 2000rpm the bike is sweet untill about 10000 rpm where the rattling resumes,ive been told the exup valve is the problem and as im new to biking i dont know too much,when i turn the bike on you can hear the exup valve operating help please ...............

I had a very similar problem last year. My local mechanic told me it was the exup valve, but after closer examination found it to be the exhaust manifold blowing! nipped up the nuts and hey presto.... no rattle. A way of checking if its blowing is to feel for the blow with your hand........ but do it from stone cold and do it quite quick as the manifold will heat up rapid style! If you do nip the nuts up, be carefull you dont over do it! i did it last week and snapped a stud at the casing, leaving me with a big problem getting it out.
