Running really rich

Post by Duncan Hines »

Hey guys for the last couple of months I have had the troble of tuning and getting my YZF705 upto good running standing. Here is a list of what needed to be done:

-Compression was below 90psi on cyl #1 valve clearances checked and corrected and replaced intake valves
-Carbs cleaned out and re-built, using Factory Pro 3.0 kit since I have a K&N pod filters and fully synced
-Floats set @ 14mm found air leak through pilot, changed pilots and stopped hanging up
-played up and down on needles and floats and pilots still running 18-30% (using gas analyzer)
-put back oem needles and jets, still rich

No leaks, strong compression valve clearances checked, running on dyno will only make power higher in the rpm's, but rich as all outdoors. Any one have any ideas??

Is it only righ (by the gas analyzer) in the bottom end?
If so, turn th epilot air screws in a quarter turn at a time untill the bike's idle won't return to normal. Then turn it out a quarter turn.
You may have to wind up with a float level of 15 or so mm from the gasket surface. How many turns are the pilot screws out now??
Here's something I just thought of as well....Under the aluminum block that holds the main jet and emulsion tube is a complex oring.....is it leaking?????????
That would do just what you're experiencing. Check that first

Hey Kid...
Is my tail light still working?

Thanks for you reply Jim, we had a look see at them and those squirrly rubbers look good, so we blew in some air to check and no leaks. It is rich from start to finish and only gets to about 80+ hp on the dyno. Tried pilots to no avail as well as different settings on the needles and bupcus. Going to check cam timing just to make sure they are set in proper to TDC on #1. Any thing else this has been nagging for weeks now. :?:

Thanks
