Ohlins question

Post by ftang »

Are Ohlins rear shocks which have the same model number (eg: 46 HRCL, which would fit my YZF750) necessarily the same inside? Or are they shimmed and valved to fit a particular model, when originally supplied? They do appear on Ebay, from Fireblades etc., but I don't know if they'd work as well on different bikes.

ftang, i think there are some differences in the internals. i think ohlins shops in england are better than they are here in the states. when i was looking for one, ohlins usa basically told me to get bent, while two shops in the U.K. said they could build a "custom" ohlins for me.

i think copperslip has had good results with KAIS over there.

Ftang. . . (ftang olé biscuit barrel?)
Different models will be shimmed differently, but any Ohlins dealer should be able to look up the spec through Ohlins for the YZF & shim to suit. That’s what my suspension guy here in NZ did for my SP jap Ohlins copy.

Whether it physically fits your bike;
um, . . .Pork? ;)

Hi Ftang, speak to Harrris Performance, they are based in Hertford - not too far from you. They rebuilt my rear shock.
