clutch-stall

Post by crazyscoot »

just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why my 400 exup stalls when you dip the clutch at the first junction after starting from cold? It a real pain and you always feel a bit of a plonker. The other problem is that the clutch slips for about 10 mins after starting from cold. Iv'e found that if i warm the motor for about 10 mins before i set off it seems to help but doesn't cure........whip it round the block and its fine! any ideas?

Yes, had a look inside and all seems well. if i depress the clutch lever the plates will loosen, its had new oil and filter. The guy in the shop told me that with certain oils it can be a problem, so he recomended the correct oil. Can't remember if it was part or fully synthetic.......but the problem still persisted. Iv'e also changed the springs to no avail. The only bit left to change is the seperator plates but i can't see why they would cause a problem?? I was told that early FZR's were prone to this.........but why?

Here's a thought:
remove your clutch lever and check if the pivot hole is still round...
That would cause your clutch to not fully disengage
If it IS out of round, you can bore it bigger and turn a brass sleeve for it to return to proper tolerance...
Jim<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Just had a look jim and there is no evident side play in the lever. I keep coming to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe when the springs are cold, they are smaller with less force. When the spings are warmer, they are longer with more force. Hense, when the motor is cold it would slip until the oil has warmed. Oil warms up and so the springs get more force because they have expanded with heat??? Its a theory! i can see it now...... i'll be in the garage one night this week with a blow tortch and and tape measure, measuring the hot and cold lengths of a spring!!!!

here's another long shop....
Is there a bunch of gunk in the passage that the clutch pushrod goes through from the slave to the thruct bearing in the clutch hat? that may be binding the rod on disengage?
The rod should ve VERY free in there
Jim

Hum...... you may be onto something there Jim. I hadn't given that a thought, and come to think of it i pulled the cluch lever in today and crossed my mind that it was a little on the stiff side. I'm fairley new to riding bikes on the road (always been off road/no licence until recently) so i'm not sure if it is normal for this age of bike. Cheers Jim your a good un <img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Cheers.gif ALT=":cheers">
