Seeking Plumbing Advice
Okay...laugh all you want...but if you think your a plumber then I need help.<br><br>Question,<br><br>Say I wanna build a garage. And it will be one of them there fangled garages that has a in-law apartment upstairs with of course the required plumbing. The garage would be slightly down level from the house say about 100 feet away. How would you run the sewer system for the garage if I needed to be able to tap into my own septic in the house?<br><br>The idea of a truck coming by to pump out a septic tank is out of the question. <br><br>How would you do it? It can't be rocket science!<br><br>Help! And no I am unable to afford a licensed plumber for the job (I'd rather put my money towards my bike!) so this will be done myself should I go thru with the project. <p>-John<br>95 FZR1000<br>90 FZR1000<br>90 FZR1040</p><i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... >jjs777</A> <IMG HEIGHT=10 WIDTH=10 SRC="http://home.comcast.net/~john.stempien/ ... larger.gif" BORDER=0> at: 3/2/05 2:46 pm<br></i>

Re: Seeking Plumbing Advice
John, I have a little experience with this - having built my own barn.<br> Forget Home depot, any contractor in the business would not ask for help there.<br> Go down to you local DCLU office ( or whatever you guys call department of construction and land use) and get the plumbing specs for your property as it stands now. <br>(sometimes available online if you know your plat #)<br> Get as much info as you can, on grading property lines etc. <br>Start asking around to anyone you can remember - friends of friends of anyone that comes mind to see who you know that might be in the building/construction industry. <br> It's turning over rocks, but sort through enough of them, and you can find someone willing to do side work, who is qualified, and because you did the homework on getting all the paperwork info they will need, will do the work you need or set you up.<br> Be relentless, remember,it's a <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>mother in law apartment</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->, what could be more important than that? <p><!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>A little less talk, and a little more satisfaction</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--></p><i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://p072.ezboard.com/bexupbrotherhoo ... upElvis</A> at: 3/3/05 3:25 pm<br></i>

I guess I misunderstood the question. How about anti-gravity 4" pcv schedule 80? <p><!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>A little less talk, and a little more satisfaction</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--></p><i></i>

plastic vs copper
okay anyone know if theres any reason I shouldnt have my plumber go with PLASTIC cold/hot water piping rather than expensive copper ?
maybe save a few bucks - plastic is cheaper and easy to install vs copper
thx

I used to have a 15X30 darkroom in our previous homes basement. Of course this was prior to God endowing us with parenthood. Now I have casual use of the second bathroom
Anyway, I had to pump all of the fluids out through the primary city sewer so I ran a good sized drain pipe into a catch basin where it was pumped up about 6' to the outflow pipe. You can see a diagram similar my construct at :
http://www.plumbingsupply.com/sewage1.html
As to the use of plastic versus PVC, I'll go with plastic as it has nearly the same strength, it's easier to install, is more flexible and much easier to repair.

so a quick summary of my project scope was to plumb the bathroom on my new second floor including toilet,sink,shower and a laundry room.
since I am in an area with strcit codes and this needs to be inspected I couldnt do it myself
quotes from licensed plumbers ranged from $3800 to $4500 - after speaking with 3-4 plumbers I was upset - this is a simple install !
I ended up landing a plumber who was buddies with my original house addition contractor. His original quote was for $1800 - so I just kept calling him.
Well...1.5 days later its all but done. The cost ? Total cost for plumbing and using PEX plastic cold/hot and pvc waste pipes/vents etc ?
$1500
The other plumbers should be ashamed of themselves and I wish them 30 years of bad luck and hard times.
My wish is for PEX to bring the cost down to the average home owner and keep plumbers from charging outrageous figures.
And dont dare tell me they have to pay for the license.
Compare this...
My electrical guy quoted $9200 (up 2500 due to the cost of copper 2 years ago)
He said he will work with 3-4 people and wire my 2500 square foot addition in about 3 weeks time.
Compare that to 1.5 days for 2 men to rough plumb my bathroom/laundry room.
Plumbers obviously have a best kept secret when it comes to EASY installations.
One plumber (a cousin to a good friend of mine) said the costs right now are about $1500 per fixture.
What ?
toilet == 1500
sink ==1500
shower ==1500
laundry 1500
??
like I said...may they have 30 years bad luck.
If you need to do any plumbing I would highly advise you to consider PEX plastic tubing. Any nay sayers just tell'em and yeah...cast iron waste pipe is making a come back and replacing pvc.

what is pex and why is it awesome
pics of my heating system for my existing house and house addition
I'm gonna stick with my 75k btu gas boiler - and see how it fairs next heating system once all zones are active against it - if it simply cant support the load I will swap in the new 100k btu unit (i'm doin the black pipe with unions to aid in easy fix/changes in the future)
to include 4 zones
the rehau manifold used makes things nice and easy along with the taco zone valve controller
the rehau supply/return manifold supports 16GPM total and 2GPM per circuit - I will use 4 right away and 2 are for future use perhaps radiant floor heating
currently fitting black pipe to my existing boiler -
interstingly this rehau manifold allows direct attachement of valve actuators on the return portion of the manifold - I ended up buying justs one of them as I had intended on using taco 571-2 units - but these rehau things just screw right on and thats it - no mess no fuss - using the tacos I will have to actually do some sweatn of copper !!!
