EXUP Worldwide was born from the ashes of the original EXUP Brotherhood – the definitive forum for all those who have interest in Yamaha FZ, FZR, and YZF motorcycles.
Micheal, questions are never stupid. Unfounded statements are And, I'm glad to see the 'star' in bullshit Bob Anyway, here are some photo's of the clutches...
There could be a solution at hand, I will let you all know as soon as I have confirmed that it can be made to work. On the bright side, even if it has been a total waste of time, most of the near new parts can be used! And their value exceeds expenses... So all good eh?
2MG FZ750 compared to YZF-750 (as good as the same)
Here is the YZF750 compared to the R6 clutch top view...
Underside
Side-On
And the slipper section of the R6 which accounts for the extra depth of the clutch basket.
Thanks for the pictures spook,
Not so sure I appreciated the comments, very difficult for me to understand where a persons issues are without seeing for myself, which I'm quite certain I did disclaim at the beginning, and the morphine is not a joke. I live on 180 - 210 mg/ day. When people go in to the hospital and they get a Shot of morphine, that's worth 10mg just for comparison.
I thought I did read that all the measurements where the same including the depth. Looks like the ring gears are the same anyways so swapping them would be an obvious waste of time. Terribly sorry to waste your time with my silly little suggetions, I'll be sure to not offer my opinions to you any longer so as not to offend.
Hope you're able to pull the project off.
Michael
Yes Yes I know, I said, I'm building a project YZF1070
Basement is done now, 850 finished and gone...
Gotta get the new siding up on the house.
Fixing the FZ1 up, cleaning up garage and then I might even begin
Aint that the truth Tony (lol) Have you posted pixs of your beautiful new toy yet? I still reckon you should buy the SP as well!
Thanks Dan, that's the bike I high sided on a couple of months ago, it was a mess! It is good to see it looking the way I like it again. You will notice it is fitted with new slicks this time, I'm being true to my word... No more second hand tyres. I think Cam was probably right about the set I had on it having been cooked. Stan and I are heading to Broadford on Sun to give it a run, can't wait!
Hell Micheal, that's a lot of juice! And I hope I have not offended you in any way? It was not my intention. I'm here to make friends, not upset people The comment regarding unfounded staments was in regard to the claim by another member that the R6 clutch is a drop-in fit for the YZF-FZR. Though, even that is not an issue... I was just having a dig!
I know morphine pretty well. Last year prior to having both hips replaced I was on 100 mg/hr of Transdermal Fentanyl. I couldn't even sit on a bike never mind ride one. Hope whatever your taking it for is something you can have sorted soon. It serves the purpose for a time, but life is better with out it. So get well brother!
The pinion gears (FZR compared to R6) are different, The crankshaft drive pinions are different sizes (R6 smaller). Also, the damper springs are not located in the same position, so that is not going to work. I'm going to drill the R6 basket off the drive today, and I'm looking to the very first FZ set-up for a solution (not pictured as yet) I will post more picks if anything looks promising. Cheers,
Ralph.
No worries man,
I just got a little disturbed at the "stupid" word which of course I wouldn't deem myself, like I said, no worries though, and my apologies if indeed it wasn't directed towards myself.
Reading stuff is sometimes not helpfull for me at all morphine or not. The first time I ever synchronized carburetors on my FZR, I read the manual 'bout ten times and still was scratching my hair, wasn't until I actually did the job did I figure out what the manual was saying, of course, it didn't help that it was the first time synchronizing anything.
A slipper clutch is one of the last things I have to locate or modify for my franken fizzer project which is really just keeping the frame and lower cases stock, but even those are being modified to some degree. So, I'll be very curious to know how you make out as it was an exploded clutch friction that started my out on my project in the first place really.
As for the morphine, unfortunately, with failed back syndrome, I will more than likely be on it for life unless I can convince the WCB to finally pony up for some services. Nevertheless, even with some services, I imagine some form of meds will be chronic unfortunately, but thanks anyways.
Michael

Okay, I've got the R6 basket off, and I can say with confidence... err.. I think, that it is never going to fit. LOL. Ever. If anyone cares to prove me wrong, well, I'm very happy for that to happen... If you could post photo's too, that would be appreciated also!
The only way I could see it being done is if we had billet (deeper) clutch baskets made to suit the FZR series hub, there are guys out there that could easily write the CNC code and knock up a dozen or so as a group buy. There are other problems that i have not properly looked at such as clutch to side cover clearance, how the inner will pull down onto the shaft, and whether it will bind, push rod length, etc etc.
Myself, i've gone as far with this as I'm going too. If needed I'll just use the clutch lever as a back torque limiter
Thankfully the clutch Dan sent me is a good as you will find, so the Ace engine is getting that with some fresh plates, I'll just buy a new center for basset and i'm done. keep smiling... Cheers
hmm, well that stinks. i was excited about the prospect, but that's life. thanks for your work on getting things measured up and compared for the possbile compatibility.
