WOOD STOVES - The Joys of Owning

I've been researching my first purchase of a wood stove for my home addition (lord knows I can afford now

I came across this official pdf ...one of several in a series and its a must read for wood stoves.

At least skim very quickly till you get to the last page where it does a break down itemization comparing wood burning heating costs vs conventional gas/oil

I nearly pee'd myself....cuz I can only imagine some friends of mine that have gone down this route.

I guess the thought of how you where going to heat that monster did cross my mind John........I put a pellet stove in my place last year and I like it a bunch.
It's a little Newport Avalon from Travis industries out here in western WA.
Doesn't take up much space and it keeps the fort cozy when the slush falls. :cool

Must be a northern invention. In the southwest we use our stoves outside (chiminea)

we have a heartstone wood insert, and love it, our neiphgors power bil is normally around $150-200 a month, and ours stays pretty consistent around $80 and thats including the wood. which most of it we get for free.

I have been using a wood furnace for 28 years as one source of heat. It has been an enjoyable diversion moost of the time, but it is not without it problems.
