I agree 100%, that is why I stopped riding when I was 23.

Now the wife is gone and the kid is grown up.

true, but with one difference...his contract/salary has a very big number, followed by a bunch of zeros...having that kind of money is everyones dream, especially earning it by playing the game you love...
I think the big difference is that the career lifespan on what he does is much shorter than everyone else's. He'll get 10, 20 at best years making a nut-load of green - he can retire before 40 with a ton of promotional contracts and do whatever the hell he wants from then on. The rest of us on the other hand will likely be working until we're 60 or gawd forbid 70 and certainly won't have the freedom that he'll enjoy much earlier in life. Once he retires nobody will give a damn if he rides buck-ass nekkid.

Oddly enough, a year or two ago another star player got shot in the leg/ass at some club and missed some time, wasn't nearly the hype about that.

Sidenote: was reading a press release today - Ben said that if he ever rides again it will be with a helmet.

At least some good can come out of the bad. I had hoped he would become an advocate for helmets after this. Hopefully he'll set a good example from here on out.
