great ride and one of the clearest videos I've seen. Well done. Most seem to break up once the rpm picks up. We've got some good rides here in Qld too, except the cops seem to have figured them out so they've spoilt the fun. There's about a 250km ride through the mountain ranges of the Brisbane Vall...

Whilst all these big capacity bikes make for exciting reading, I'm kind of glad Yamaha hasn't got involved in it all and have stuck to perfecting the 1 litre engine. It seems anything bigger becomes a disadvantage when it comes to handling. Ok I know some riders just can't get enough horsepower, but...

no offense taken mate yeah worked with a few dodgy mechanics in my time - thus my skepticism. Some mechanics understanding of 'adjust valve clearances' is wiping over the valve cover with a rag and replacing the gasket/seal... problem with valve clearances (particularly on bikes) is you don't know i...

F-Zed-R, F-Zee-R
funny isn't it how the different countries pronnounce the name :) was filling up the bike at the service station last week when this guy with a full on American accent asked my 'hey man, is that an F-Zee-R1000' LOL  kind of spun me out as I've never actually heard it pronnounced that way. In Au...

thanks chris - your explanation is fairly much the same as what I have experienced with DOHC car engine valve clearances. The FZR service manual obviously overcomplicates things as I suspected. thanks for the tip on the marks to look out for. hey willi, nice to see a fellow Aussie here :) had I not ...

FZR1000 - time to check valve clearances
first time doing bike valve clearances - trying to avoid taking the bike to a workshop which will cost me an arm and a leg, and I will never really know if they've done them. ok I've downloaded the service manual which does walk you through the procedure, but I wanted to get some advice from the exp...

Re: cornering tips needed from experienced riders !
I might add, for such a powerful engine these bikes can be such pussycats if you wish them to be, which makes learning to ride them so much more pleasant and safe. Such a wide and steady powerband at least up to around 7000rpm which makes throttle control very predictable and effortless to maintain....

Re: cornering tips needed from experienced riders !
Yeah dragracer - I think you are right, might be turning in too early. Most of my 'high spirited' driving experience has been in my car, which no doubt involves somewhat different cornering lines and braking than a bike. I guess you would tend to turn a car into a corner earlier than a bike. So mayb...

Re: cornering tips needed from experienced riders !
thanks for your time guys - some very informative, detailed replies there guys. I'm taking it all on board.

Firstly yeah I am being mindful not to outride my ability and I am keeping reasonably within my boundaries - thus the reason I'm dropping back so far behind the other guys. I did have a...

cornering tips needed from experienced riders !
went on a ride with a bunch of guys (who are a lot more experienced than me particularly on big capacity bikes) the other weekend, and whilst I really enjoyed the ride, I came back a little disappointed in my riding ability. I really fell far behind on the corners.

I know I'm probably getting...

Re: RE:10 year old lid
I haven't tried a great range of helmets - but I currently use a Shoei and like it. Although I wish it had one of those nose cover things - ie the little guard that stops your breathing from fogging up the visor in rain and cold weather. I know they are available, but they weren't available on my he...
