Cool track. I notice the longest straight is only 2000ft which is about 600m. Laguna claims a max straight of 966m. I don't think that track would suite motogp bikes as they would never get out pass 3rd gear. When you compare to a track like Shanghai with a 1202 straight this is a good track day track.

the recently new f1 tracks that were designed and built aren't that great, in my opinion. they are basically famous portions from other tracks strung together to make a new track. nothing exciting, the tracks have none of the character of established circuits. i think the designer had to appease the lawyers that insist that courses must be "safe".

i have heard the arguments against barber being the fact that the corners are too tight to handle the power of the gp bikes. could be a load of shit, but what do i know. i like barber's layout better than laguna.

Article still doesn't shed a whole lot of light on the matter, but looks like Indy is a go in fall 2008: http://www.speedtv.com/articles/moto/motogp/38222/

I realize most aren't too thrilled about it being at Indy, but considering it's only 3 hours away for me as opposed to 3,000 miles makes me a happy s.o.b. :banana

Interseting thread......

I've watched a few champ car races from Road America, and it seems to be a great layout.

I have to agree with you all that Indy would be a, how do you put it, a yawn, for Moto GP. It's usually not that exciting a place to watch an F1 race from,

Would a 2nd race in the states be at the expence of a current event somewhere else, or an addition to the calender

The way they've talked they are going to make some major modifications to the track, so technically it would be something "new" and different from what they currently have. I'm curious to see what the proposed layout would be. You know how much they complained about Laguna and the changes they had to make there, so it's bound to be different from what we expect now.

I don't know if it will be an additional race or not. I've heard rumblings before about GP kicking the idea around of dropping a few current tracks, but who knows. Probably won't learn more for another couple of months :hissy

I think Indy has potential....don't give up all hope for it!

The straight at miller, when I was there, was over a kilometer, and the track was 4.5 miles long. I don't know what a gp bike would do on it, but it seemed like my cbr was floating along for a while getting from one end to the other. It's brand new, and supposed to be a GP level course. The races I've seen on TV there, are funny, they chop the course in half for the AMA guys, because it's too long!

I was under the impression that Miller was trying to get that race. I wish they would. It is closer to me, and I won't be embarrassed with the "hey look we turned the oval into a road course" mentality. Sorry orionburn I know it is nice to be able to make a short trip to the races, but Indy is going to suck.

After reading your posts on this topic, i thought you all might be interested in this link

Was also interested to see Dehamul is riding for Honda at Laguna in place of Elias.

Is there no young Honda riders in the ststes that could have filled the spot, other than a 39 year old????

I guess they want at least a chance of winning by having someone that has raced and won there many times.

Ok, I think I am over my issues. I am going to plan a ride to Indy. I went to the first Brickyard with my dad, and cannot complain with the quality of the show, and hell I like to check out inaugural events.

With Kawasaki aslo mentioning on Moto GP they are close to signing a proven Moto GP winner for next year???? Marco maybe, i don't see Dani leaving Honda

The only guys with confirmed deals for next year are Rossi, Stoner, Nicky Haden, and now Hopkins

But we may yet see K Schwants running a new team, possabily with bikes supplied by Suzuki, (with B Spears perhaps??) and a 3 bike Kawasaki team, hmmm Weat or de puiniet

Am looking foward to the US gp, even if it does start at 2.30 AM
