FZR 600 substitute engines

I have a 93 FZR 600 whose engine needs an overhaul. I'm considering just swapping the engine. I posted earlier a question about using a R6 engine which seems to fit into the FZR 600 frame. Any other engine drops right into the 1993 FZR 600 frame?

If you can get it in there, I would love a pic by pic memory of it!

ok, if I ever do it I'll try to memorialize it w/ pics. My understanding is the R6 engine fits with no problem but other things like the airbox and drive alignment requires creative thinking.

Hi,
Late FZR600R (94-95) engine fits, as does YZF600 Thundercat engines, and
FZS600 Fazer engines (but the head is different, so you would probably need to use your old engine`s head or one from a YZF600. Carbs too. R6 engines are radically different, but since they are smaller, they can be probably made to fit. It is NOT a straight swap, though...and the pitfalls you mentioned are probably true, even with the engines mentioned above, let alone the R6. All the engines mentioned have shorter stroke and bigger bores than yours, the R6 even more so, plus it is side-distribution and it uses a 5,5 inch rear wheel, which means the chain is farther away from the centerline...could be the biggest problem, and may require a new rear wheel, swingarm and even frame!
Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
