Q about ignition advancers . . .

Post by NorCalRyda »

wuddup fellas, i posted this under the yzf750r page but didnt get any replies so posting here in tech. my Q is about ignition advancers for the yzf750r. ive heard of v&h powerpak & dyna2000. from what ive read, these are pretty damn hard to get a hold of. are there any other companies that still make them for our bikes? if available are ignition advancers worth getting? ohh, i got a 97' yzf750r. -tone

The way the crank position sensor is on our bikes there are no possibilities for iggy advancers. There "are" possibilities for altering the iggy curve with an aftermarket iggy box. This will involve new crank position sensors and coils and are available from Schnitz, Accell, MSD, Orient Express and a number of other places. Quite spendy and if it's a street bike not even remotely what you want. Unless you're after bling.
Jim<img src=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... I would email vance and hines...see if they'd be willing to give you any help. Afterall the bikes are ancient...they might be willing. Matter of fact maybe even try to leverage someone like factory pro...since that guy is a hoot...I bet he has some contacts over at v&h

-John
1995 FZR1000
1990 FZR1000
1990 FZR1040

That's a good point John.
My thoughts on this are that sometimes it's better for the sport if not the industry as a whole to have new ideas surface from unexpected sources - it gives the veterans something to laugh at.

cvhjkthis

I have the bascom program and I like it. There is a pretty good support group too. I've thought about doing an ignitor, but that was a brief thought. I don't think that I would make a buck on it, and it would be quite a bit of effort, so I moved on to projects with more potential.

If you're interested in dabbling with Micros, you might consider buying an STK500 development board. Its got a lot of features to plug and play during experimenting and allows you to program chips on the board, or in your circuit. The board goes for $100 and bascom goes for ~$140. Kind of cheap for a system that is feature rich. Then you could go to International Rectifier to look at power switching circuits. Texas instruments is big on Automotive and worth the look and National instruments too.
