spluttering

Post by creed12r »
could it mean you have hit the rev limiter, which cuts the spark to the plug.
It's about 12,000 on the exup I believe, although I have only hit it once.
I am usually more mechanically sympathetic to the old girl.

Could also be a weak spark caused by a battery going bad as well.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...
There are some who call me........Tim?
Top Speed = Mach 0.197 or so...
1994 FZR 1000 <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ...

It splutters between 10k and 11k! Good battery and the sprins were within specs when I split the cases! The bike does run good and thats about the only thing wrong with her! Oh well, I guess I can live with it! Thanks guys!

Freelance Bodyman

I be ridin the Cali Bay Area '88 & '89 FZR1K BOTH ARE ONLY HALF NAKED NOW!!!

Try revving it out in the dark and look for sparks round the HT leads. (but not while you're ridin it Barney)

You can set up the valve springs to whatever height you want but you have to be mindfull of coilbind...
shim them under the spring to attain the desired spring height. This will give you a bit more preload on them and may move upward the point at which they float.
Pretty easy fix...I'd bet that beinging as old as them springs are....
Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... Had the exact same problem... usually meant I'd have to replace the plugs, but later found out that it was incorrectly spec'ed dyna coils on the bike...

if it's only doing it in the upper gears....I'm gonna go out on a limb here and start thinkin iggy...
Start lookin at plug caps, wires, coils, I don't think trigger coils but won't rule them out....
Jim <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/ ... I would say that if it's only noticable in the top end, it's probably fuel starvation. Redline in first gear is quick enough that a marginal condition would not show up. In the higher gears, the sustained high demand for fuel drops the fuel level to the point that it misfires from bieng lean.

yeah my 95 symptom is usually when under sustained load in the upper gears
-John <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/ ...
1995 FZR1000
1990 FZR1000
1990 FZR1040

I had the exact problem and it turned out to be a bad petcock valve.
